Countless people who regularly use prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines will tell you from experience that the relief from their different types of headache is only temporary. Their problem returns to harass them much sooner than later. They add that they usually suffer the attending side effects of these medicines, which they have to use repeatedly as and when the headache comes back. Many herbal remedies, in contrast, attack the root cause of the headache to prevent its recurrence, without producing many or any side effects at all. Naturally, herbal remedies for headache do not cause dependency like over the counter medications.

Types of headaches
Figuring out what makes millions of people all over the world suffer from one type of headache or another is of utmost importance. Basically, there are two types: primary and secondary headaches. Of these, primary headaches are more prevalent. These are not caused by a medical condition. They typically occur in the form of some severe physical or mental tension or stress. When stress or tension reaches severe levels, it restricts blood flow from the neck muscles and the head into the brain. This obviously leads to headaches. They can also appear as migraine, which affects countless people. Migraines can have various causes, ranging from hormonal imbalances or fluctuations, liver disorders, accumulation of too many toxins in the body, or in some cases, the use of contraceptive pills. Some unfortunate people suffer from chronic headaches that not only recur at frequent intervals over long periods of time, lasting a year or more in some cases. Such severe and repetitive headaches or cluster headaches show their victims virtual hell on earth.

Secondary headaches, as is evident, occur as a result of some other ailment, or physical or mental deprivation or some overindulgence. These obviously disappear once the initial conditions that triggered them are successfully treated or eliminated. Comparatively fewer people suffer from such headaches. Some might experience headaches when they skip a meal or even a regular cup of morning coffee. Others may have headaches due to certain foods, chocolate, alcohol and so on. Constipation, insomnia, diabetes and other medical conditions may also cause headaches in some people.

Herbal remedies work towards striking at the very root causes of headaches, whether primary or secondary. Usually, symptomatic treatments aiming at relieving pain succeed only temporarily. Unlike them, herbal remedies are useful in restoring sound health, due to which headaches will consequently go away. Some medicinal herbs contain flavonoid complexes like silymarin (a powerful anti-oxidant) and others have sesquiterpene lactones with their main ingredient being parthenolide. These inhibits the release of certain pain inducing chemicals from the blood that cause headaches. Some others have properties to reduce anxiety and tension and to counter the withdrawal symptoms of various recovering addicts, which are again the reason why such people experience debilitating headaches. Herbal remedies like feverfew, milk thistle, passiflora incarnata, ginkgo biloba, ginger, kava kava, and many others are quite effective in several different kinds of headaches, including migraines. Besides, you can also findt Chinese and Indian herbal remedies for headaches and many consider these extremely dependable.

Being natural products and much unlike synthetic products, herbal remedies hardly produce any side effects, rebound effects or dependency as they treat and cure, and even prevent the recurrence of headaches.

Are you like most people, constantly throwing out spoiled food from your refrigerator? There is a better way, if you own food vacuum sealers. It is so common to go to the fridge only to find cheese with mold, strawberries bought just a few days ago that are now mushy and wasted, or meat that has been in your freezer for too long to be edible anymore.

There is so much wasted money in the food we have to throw away. If you buy a block of cheese for $5.00, and throw away half of it because of mold, you’ve lost $2.50. In what other area of our lives do we consider a 50 percent loss common and acceptable? There is a way to save that money, and it is by using a food vacuum sealer.

Food vacuum sealers are a household appliance that seals food in bags or canisters designed to work with the machine. The process a food vacuum sealer uses is almost identical to the packaging methods of food manufacturers. The machine takes air out of the packaging, making food last longer. Therefore, a food vacuum sealer is a great investment, because you aren’t constantly throwing away spoiled food.

Food vacuum sealers are almost like an investment for your kitchen. You pay the upfront fee of buying the machine, but it will save you so much money in food costs over the course of using it, that the unit will ultimately pay for itself and end up saving you additional money.

Just think of all of the applications of having a machine that makes your food last months longer than it normally would. You can buy berries, for example, when they are in season and enjoy them for weeks longer than you would normally be able to. You can buy cheeses or meats in bulk at club stores for a great discount, and rest assured that the food vacuum sealer means that you can actually use the food long before it goes bad.

Honey is a great antioxidant. Studies conducted on the beneficial properties of honey have established that it protects the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. Honey also helps in the rejuvenation of the skin. Free radicals resulting from the metabolism in your body when oxidized are responsible, along with other things, for ageing. Being a natural and superb antioxidant, honey fights the free radicals and decelerates ageing. You can either consume honey or apply it topically to reap its many benefits.

Honey has a high sugar content, moderately high acidity and therefore low pH and low protein quantity. Add to these its antioxidant property and the presence of Hydrogen Peroxide in it, and you have a wonderful anti-bacterial and anti-microbial agent in honey.

To stay, feel and look young, you should have to maintain your face, your skin and your hair. They must have a good and young appearance. Honey will help you do this extremely well. You may not have either the time or the mood to spend a lot of money to go to a spa but that’s okay because honey provides you with an easy and effective alternative.

Honey in history
Legend has it that even since the times of Cleopatra, honey has been used for enhancing and maintaining one’s youthful looks and beauty. As you grow in age or when affected by exposure to unfavorable environmental factors, your skin tends to lose its elasticity, softness and supple character. Honey is a good natural product with excellent properties for restoring these very qualities to the skin. It has the capability of retaining and maintaining the moisture in the skin. Honey inhibits scaling and smoothes the wrinkles on the skin. Because of this, the skin looks naturally young.

Uses for honey
Mixed with some other things, honey can work as a facial mask, a hair conditioner and a skin clarifier. To make dry skin smooth, apply a mixture containing four tablespoons of honey and three tablespoons of milk. After about ten minutes, rinse the skin for a smoother look. Mashed apple mixed with five tablespoons of honey is good for tightening your skin. These mixtures can be topically applied anywhere, face, neck, arms or anywhere you need a healthy skin boost.

Of course, you can use also honey alone. Apply it directly on your skin when it is rough, scaly or dry. Leave it in place for a few minutes and then wash it off to find revitalized skin.

Home facial
A recipe for a home facial consists of two egg whites and about three to four tablespoons of honey. You can make a paste out of these with the help of a little flour. Liberal application of the paste on your face and washing it off with lukewarm water after ten minutes or so will leave your face look squeaky clean.

Honey can be used as a hair conditioner too. Combine ½ cup of honey with ¼ cup of olive oil and add a few drops of the oil of rosemary. Apply this to your hair and hair roots. Leave it for about 30 minutes and then rinse well. You may also use a good shampoo to wash your hair. You will be left with excellently conditioned hair.

To say that I drink a lot of coffee is on some days an understatement. I used to drink a lot of soda, but when I realized what it was doing to my body, I had to find another way to get the caffeine that I craved without adding all of those empty calories to my daily intake. Though there are a few calories associated with coffee, it is far better for me than all of the soda I was drinking. In a perfect world I would be wide awake all day and drink only water, but I don’t see that happening any time soon. On cooler days I need a way to keep the coffee in my cup warm, so I have gone out and bought a mug warmer.

I always thought buying a mug warmer meant that I was too serious about my coffee, and that meant that I had turned into my mother. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I was not ready for that image. Instead, I found a way to keep my coffee warm. There is nothing more annoying than getting up every fifteen minutes to warm my coffee in the microwave. I use a large mug, so the mug warmer stops my coffee from cooling off to fast. I drink a lot of coffee, but I do tend to drink it rather slowly throughout the day.

I didn’t spend a lot of money on my mug warmer, so I do fear I may wear it out rather quickly. It sort of reminds me of the bottle warmer we had for my daughter when she was an infant. It does not work the same way, but I fear the mug warmer may wear out as fast. The bottle warmer worked very well, but it was only a matter of weeks before I had to buy a new one. It doesn’t seem to be very well made, but it was the only one I found. I suppose at the price I paid it won’t hurt to much to replace it.

A mug warmer might be a great gift for someone in your life who loves coffee or tea. If they live in an area where the weather turns cold for some months of the year. That is when a mug warmer might be the most appreciated. When it is cold outside there is always a chill in any home no matter how well the heating system might work. I know this is when I need my mug warmer the most.

The greatest problem with a weight-loss program, which you have chosen to follow meticulously at the outset, is that temptations try and sabotage it. The truth is, more often than not, you will not be able to resist them. The secret behind their success and your failure is that they infiltrate into your subconscious little by little, until you realize that you have actually dumped your diet for good. If you think giving in to a minor temptation now and then will do your diet no harm, you may be wrong. In the long run, these small deviations might become more frequent, without your knowledge.

A few tips may help you keep you on track:

#1. MONITOR YOUR PROGRESS

For this, you have to maintain a record of what you eat and what activities you do, on a day-to-day basis. Note down any deviations on a particular occasion, in red or in bold letters. That way, you know how frequent your slip ups are.

An occasional minor lapse need not leave you with a guilty feeling. Remember not to choose a diet that does not allow any concessions at all in the schedule.

#2. HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ABOUT YOUR DIET

Do not treat your diet as a temporary program, unless you think you can reach your target weight in a short time and you are confident of staying at that level. Why most people keep jumping from one diet to another is that they find that their weight loss is not permanent. They also start gaining back their lost weight in no time because they kick all restrictions with a vengeance the moment they feel they no longer need to deprive themselves of all those foods that they like the most.

You must view your diet as something integral to your life, on a long term basis. Tell yourself that your diet is a way of healthy living. Feel good about losing weight by not consuming unwanted calories. If you feel unhappy that you are missing out on all the tasty dishes because of your diet, you are likely to give it up sooner than otherwise.

#3. SET REACHABLE GOALS

If your goals for weight loss are too ambitious, unreachable, frustration is likely to overwhelm you. First achieve a small goal, and then set another, slightly more difficult but reachable fresh goal. Your little successes keep reinforcing your will for better successes in subsequent attempts. In concrete terms, do not aim at losing 50 pounds in five weeks, although you have to lose 50 pounds to reach your ideal weight. Work for losing a pound a week. It may take long, but you are going to be on your way to good health.

#4. DIVERT YOUR ATTENTION FROM FOOD TO PEOPLE AND ACTIVITIES

Spend time with the people important in your life. Taking more interest in their well being, their activities and trying to make them happier will keep you satisfied with yourself. Take up some hobby that interests you. Get so immersed in it that you find little time to think about eating junk food.

#5. AVOID SWEETENED FOODS & ALCOHOL

Several soft drinks, lemonade, cookies, jams, jellies, breads and other baked goods contain high-fructose corn syrup that sweetens them. Avoid them, if you want to your diet work. Also avoid alcohol for the same reason. They sabotage your diet, like no other thing.

However, again, an occasional drink will do you no harm.

When I was growing up, the memorial day backyard barbecue was the hit of the summer. My dad would make the most delicious barbeque ribs I had ever tasted. In general, my dad was a pretty light-hearted joke-a-minute kind of day. When he was working the backyard grill, however, he became someone quite different. Suddenly, he was all business. You could talk to him, but if you broke his concentration on the barbecue grill, he would start to tune you out. Getting the meat to just the perfect temperature was his only priority.

I always thought that his barbeque ribs were the most delicious food in the world. They were sweet, smoky, and slightly crunchy on the outside. We would never go out for barbecue ribs when I was a kid, and looking back, it was just as well. As a kid, i never had to find out that my dad made barbeque ribs that were about average at best. .

When I first got to taste slow cooker country style ribs, I thought that I had died and gone to heaven. My dad’s barbeque ribs were all but forgotten the moment my teeth sunk into that moist, succulent meat. I had never heard of a slow cooker ribs recipe before. My dad was strictly a grill kind of guy. Although he used a barbeque ribs spice rub, he might as well have left it off because the flavor barely got into the ribs.

With slow cooked ribs, however, the spices penetrated the meat perfectly. I can’t even explain how good it was! I had heard people talking about the meat “falling off the bone” before, but I had never really realized that they meant it literally. After being smoked for hours and hours, the rib meat is so tender that it dissolve right in your mouth. It was so good, in fact, that I did not even use barbecue sauce. The ribs did not even need it!

What I didn’t know back then was that there was more too those barbeque ribs than using a slow cooker. The actual quality of the rib meat itself makes a big difference. My dad bought his pork ribs at the Safeway, but these ones were from a local, organic farm. You really could taste the difference! You wouldn’t think that it would matter after hours of cooking, but it really did!
