Musical baby toys are some of the best learning toys out there for toddlers and infants. Our culture puts a lot of emphasis on recognizing patterns, textures, shapes, and sizes, but being able to understand the structure of music and the complex patterns it entails is often deemphasized. Musical toddler toys are not just a way for babies to amuse themselves. Although the effects of music on the mind are not well understood, it is clear that it plays a profound role in our society. Music affects our emotions, inspires us, makes us dance, and can even be used to control us and make us docile in shopping malls and waiting rooms. By getting your kids musical instruments, You can help give them a head start in understanding the fascinating world of sound.

There are all sorts of musical baby toys out there. The ones for smaller kids actually tend to be more elaborate. Things like the Speak and Spell and miniature children’s synthesizes require very little input to get complex output. You press one button and the whole machine flashes and plays a melody. You press another button and you get a different pattern of flashing and a different melody. This gives the child a lot of gratification for very little work – a useful thing for kids who are only just beginning to develop basic hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Musical toddler toys, by contrast, tend to be quite a bit simpler. Whereas musical baby toys make all of the music for you, instruments for slightly older kids tend to be simplified, inexpensive versions of real instruments. A kids accordion works much like an adult to accordion except that it only has notes and chords in a major scale. A kids harmonica is more or less identical to a professional harmonica, except that it is cheap to make and cheap to buy. And of course all the kids drums, rhythm sticks, and other percussion instruments, are exactly what they appear to be: a low cost way to let your child explore the world of rhythm.

I’ve always thought it was good to give your child a selection of different musical toys. Baby learning toys with a musical component are great for the first year or two of life. After that, your child can move up to junior musical instruments that allow him or her to really play a rhythm or compose a song. Finally, if the kid is really interested in playing music, he can move on to half-size guitars, small violins, and things like that. Going from musical baby toys to actual musical instruments is not one big jump, but rather a series of progressive steps.

I have bought my daughter quite a few different doll houses, and she has lost interest in every single one of them rather quickly. I guess they were not big enough, or they were not special enough, I’m not really sure. I think that if she decides that she would like to have a new one, I want to get her something very special. I want to get her a very large wood doll house to see if that would be something she would prefer to have.

What makes the wood doll house different, if you buy the right one, is that they can be decorated in any way you want. That would mean my daughter and I could spend a lot of time painting the walls or even adding wallpaper to the wood doll house, and we could make it just like she would like to have it. She could choose what she wanted each room to be. She may want sixteen bathrooms and no kitchen, but that would be up to her.

A wood doll house would cost more, and probably the furniture alone would break me, but I wouldn’t want to spend that much money unless she was really into it. Right now, she’s not, but that could change in a few years. I think taking the time to decorate with her would be something special for the two of us to do together when we found the time. I think planning it would be almost as fun as actually putting it together. Even better, we could probably redo it as many times as we like as long as she still has an interest in doing so.

When thinking about a wood doll house and accessories, you don’t have to buy the limited number of them you can find in the store. If you know someone who loves to work with wood, ask them if they would build one for you. That would be the best way to do it, as you could choose your own materials and you could have it any size you want. You would also be able to choose how many rooms, floors, and anything else that would go into it. If you don’t know someone, you can find them online in many cases, or in local craft and gift stores. You may have to search a while for the perfect one, but it would be well worth the hunt.

So you’re expecting a baby, and it’s never too early to start learning the basics of baby feeding. It can all be a bit confusing; should you breast or bottle feed, or do both? Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and it really depends on what’s going to work best for everyone involved, including the new addition. Some mothers are committed to breastfeeding and end up formula feeding instead, some babies started on formula don’t tolerate it well, so mom breast feeds instead. Many factors play into the final decision of what to feed baby. It’s important to learn about all feeding options before the birth of your baby, so that your baby will get complete balanced nutrition. Babies grower faster during their first year of life than during any other time. They need three to four times more calories per pound of body weight than adults, and fat for energy and absorption of vitamins.

Babies are totally dependent on their parents and caregivers for nutrition and love, and many new parents are excited about the new addition to the family, but anxious as well. Find out all there is to know about feeding your baby from breast to bottle feeding to starting solids. Learn about breastfeeding which is a popular option for many women because breast milk provides the baby with the nutrients it needs. Breastfeeding is convenient and unlike formula, it doesn’t require and advance planning or packing and it’s always available at just the right temperature. On the other hand, some parents choose the baby feeding to be with iron-fortified infant formula completely or to supplement nursing with an occasional bottle. This allows for dad or other caregivers to share in feeding the baby without mom needing to pump breast milk.

Most new parents have lots of questions and want to make an informed decision and consider all baby feeding options. There are many online resources available that provide helpful insight to new parents-to-be through all stages of the pregnancy and everything that comes afterward. The baby’s doctor, nurse, or certified lactation consultant can also offer great support to provide new parents with helpful insight on infant nutrition and what is right for the new baby. There are many choices and decisions to be made before a new baby arrives and what to feed is an important one. Baby feeding is a wonderful time for bonding with the new baby, to snuggle with the new bundle of joy and get to know each other. Enjoy!

When my daughter and I recently went to get our eyes checked, my daughter was looking at an advertisement for colored contact lenses. She thought it was very cool that you could use contacts to change your eye color, and she asked me why I didn’t want to do it myself. I explained to her that I am very happy with the color of my eyes, and I never really gave it much thought. Even then though, it could be fun to see what it would be like to have a different color on occasion.

What color you can have if you want to change your eyes with colored contact lenses will depend on your real color. My daughter has dark brown eyes, and with color that deep, she didn’t have a lot of options if she were to do that. She’s too young of course, but we looked at the chart just for fun. Those with lighter colors can choose almost any colored contact lenses, but those with dark eyes like hers have very limited options.

Whether you want to change your eyes all the time or just for fun, you can do so with the simply use of colored contact lenses. Depending on what you want, you can find choices with almost any eye doctor. If you have green eyes, and would like to try blue, you can do it rather easily with colored contact lenses. You can even have a lot of fun by having each eye a different color, or you can have special ones that might make it look like you have green cat eyes or even no eye color at all.

You can usually find colored contact lenses at any eye doctor, or you can use your prescription to find them online. You might save some money if you look online, but make sure you are getting a quality contact. You may think of them as cosmetic, but if you need vision adjustment, it is essential that your colored contact lenses are just as good as the ones you would normally wear. If you get some with no prescription just for the change, and you normally don’t need vision correction, remember that it might take some time to get used to them, and that you have to care for them as if they were prescriptions. Your eyes are still at risk from bad habits just as they would be if you were wearing prescription lenses.

Some parents think that a snoring child is cute and endearing, but it can be a sign of a condition known as childhood sleep apnea.

Most people have heard of the condition sleep apnea, but are unaware that childhood sleep apnea is a common ailment. Obstructive sleep disordered breathing in children includes symptoms like snoring and mouth breathing, and can be treated or cured if appropriately diagnosed.

An estimated three to twelve percent of children snore, while obstructive childhood sleep apnea syndrome affects one percent to ten percent of children. The majority of these children have mild symptoms, and many outgrow the condition even without treatment or intervention. However, consequences of untreated obstructive childhood sleep apnea include failure to thrive, enuresis, attention-deficit disorder, behavior problems, poor academic performance, and cardiopulmonary disease.

Clinical diagnosis of childhood sleep apnea is very reliable, and parents can rest assured that they will get an accurate diagnosis for their kids. However, a good diagnosis requires an overnight sleep study, called a polysomnography. For kids with childhood sleep apnea, this type of sleep study may be frightening and a parent may need to endure the same study in order to comfort the child by being in the room. If the child cannot fall asleep away from home, there is no way to monitor them for the sleep study, so a feeling of safety is key. Look for a sleep study center that caters to children with childhood sleep apnea.

Treatment of childhood sleep apnea includes the use of continuous positive airway pressure and weight loss in obese children. These alternatives are tolerated poorly in children and rarely are considered primary therapy. Adenotonsillectomy is curative in most patients, and highly recommended for kids with childhood sleep apnea. Children with craniofacial syndromes, neuromuscular diseases, medical comorbidities, or severe obstructive childhood sleep apnea, and those younger than three years are at increased risk of developing postoperative complications and should be monitored overnight in the hospital.

You probably know some baby boomers. You may be one, or your parents or grandparents may be of that generation. Some have heard the term but they have no idea what it really means. We are used to hearing about Generation X and even the newer ones, but what of those who have been around for a while, and may be near or entering the years of retirement? They may be older, but they still have a lot of influence on the world.

The baby boomers are often a targeted market because there are so many of them. These were children that were a result of soldiers returning from World War 2. Many babies were born in the following years, and they are to date one of the largest generations alive. They are also in high places, many of them holding positions of power in both government and in the private sector as well. Baby boomers are well celebrated, and should be respected.

There is a lot to learn from the baby boomers. They have a culture all their own, and have shaped our world. Their ideas about health and well being are often not of their parents, as they take things more seriously, but they are still not aging as well as once hoped. That’s not for all of them of course, but for some, retirement might not be what they wished. Whatever the case though, they are trying to age gracefully, even though some aren’t having much luck.

Whatever their health issues, those younger should take advantage of what the baby boomers have seen and lived through. There is wisdom that comes with experience, and that makes them valuable in more ways than one. If you want the answers to life, ask the baby boomers. They won’t have the answers of course, but their ideas might be closer than one might think. There is always something the generations that come later can learn from the ones that came before them. Don’t let that knowledge die away.

For those who are baby boomers, share with your family what you have learned. Know that as you age, you have your family behind you, and they can benefit from what you have to say, even if they seem to be less than interested. Also remember what when no one else seems to understand, there is help out there. There are many websites devoted to and for the baby boomer, and you may find more comfort there than you ever imagined.
